Thank you for visiting Wine Camp. I created Wine Camp to promote the discussion of terroir driven wines in a points free environment. I believe the current addiction to the 100 point scale pulls many consumers away from wines with grace, complexity and a true sense of place. Here you will find no rankings and all of the wines in my wine notes are recommended. The only exception you’ll find is if I think a particular brand is a consumer rip-off that needs exposing as in this post.

There are several featured sections of this blog, all of which you can find on the navigation bar on the left hand side of each page:

“The Wine Camp Blog” my ongoing commentary on the world of wine and food

My Wine and Food Writing Library” features longer, more in-depth articles covering the world of wine and food and the archives from VinoCibo.com.

Riesling, Dr. L, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Loosen Bros., 2006

Riesling, Dr. L, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Loosen Bros., 2006

If you want proof that the best wine values are to found in wines from Europe, not the new world, just taste this delicious riesling. With far more complexity, riesling character and charm than American rieslings at twice the price, this is an incredible bargain. Fragrant and racy with just a touch of sweetness and laced with fresh peach and juicy apricot flavors and aromas all tied together with a mouthwatering acidity. Priced well under $20 this is a wine to buy by the case so you can always have a bottle waiting in the fridge when you get home from work. On top of it all is a screw cap so you’ll know each bottle will be perfect.

This is a prime example of why German rieslings will always be my favorite wines. This wine is perfect for sipping on a hot summer day. It paired beautifully with low country shrimp and cheese grits, portobello with tomato, spinich, borsin cheese and balsamic reduction, and chocolate lava cake. Dr. L 2006 is a truly versatile and exquisitely delicious wine.

izzy, the cat bottle is a special edition that I saw at World Market here in Minnesota. I believe that she told me it was for Halloween but I may be mistaken on that. The clerk indicated it came out yearly so if you missed it this year, you can get more next year.

Cheers!

hi about a year ago my friend sent me a white wine in a bottle shaped like a woman (i think the bottle was pink or red) do you know what kind of wine that could have been?

Sorry I don't know it, but it's never a good sign wine-wise when bottles have silly shapes.
